Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I drop off my child to school?
Clap-in begins at 8:40am. Clap-in is a community morning meeting with students, teachers, and parents with daily announcements, celebrations and Friday community-building dances. Families enter from the Brompton Street gates. Students line up with their respective teachers while community announcements are made for parents and students.
How early can you drop off your child in the morning?
The school yard opens at 8:20AM. Since there is no supervision on the school yard until this time, unaccompanied children are not allowed on the yard before 8:20AM.
What does my child need to bring to school?
A backpack, water bottle, and lunch (if bringing from home).
Do I need to pack a snack?
Our PTO provides a daily fresh snack for all students, but you are welcome to pack a nut-free snack with your child if you want to.
Do I need to pack lunch?
Fresh school lunches are free for all students. Packed lunches can also be brought to school.
Are nuts or nut products allowed?
No nuts please.
Do I need to buy school supplies?
Nope! All the supplies your student needs will be provided by the school.
What happens if I'm late for pick up at the end of the day?
After about 10 minutes, staff will bring remaining children to the main office to wait.
What do I do if my student is late to school?
School starts at 8:40am when the bell rings. All students are expected to gather outside in the yard, in line with their classroom (or in the auditorium or cafeteria on rainy days). Students wandering or waiting in the halls for their class to enter the building will be marked tardy.
Students arriving between Clap In and 9:10 will receive a tardy slip.
Students arriving after 9:10am will need a tardy pass from the office along with the reason for being late.
We know getting out of the house in the morning can be a challenge and ask for your partnership in getting students to school on time to start their day.
What time is considered tardy and I have to get a tardy slip?
If a student arrives before 9:10 am they can go straight to class. If they arrive at 9:10 or after, they should come to the office for a tardy pass.
How can I contact my child's teacher?
You will be invited to join the ParentSquare forum which is our communication platform. Teachers often send updates and weekly newsletters with what the class is working on, ways to contribute, etc.
What will my child do in the After Care Program?
You can get more detailed information about our after school program here, but the short answer is: homework help, outside play time, trips to Glen Canyon, and Friday clubs.
Will my child have homework?
In Kindergarten, teachers provide a weekly packet that is filled with mostly optional activities and there is very little pressure.
What should kindergartners expect?
Kindergarten students are in their own nook of the building, with their own play yard. Bathrooms are either in the classroom or adjacent to the classroom.
What extracurricular classes does Glen Park offer?
Dance, music, visual art, garden, physical education, and theater arts with StageWrite. You can learn more about them here.
How can parents get involved in the school?
